Hello Jon. Sounds like you are enjoying your Spring Planting. Isn't it fun to see all these plants grow?

It is a bit slower coming here in Northern California...
But definitely going to plant <a href="http://smallplotgardens.com/highyield/siberian-tomato-variety-a-cool-weather-choice" rel="nofollow">Black Prince and Siberian Tomatoes</a> this year.
They are cool tolerant and produced in Nor Cal through 2 hard freezes (with Cover)

It has been a long cold winter, but it is warming up nicely now. Was 80 degrees today and so nice. I too am cleaning out the garden beds and getting ready to plant. Can't wait to see it begin to produce again. Love fresh home grown veggies.

Thanks for putting up this article. I'm unquestionably frustrated with struggling to search out relevant and rational commentary on this matter. Everybody now goes to the very far extremes to either drive home their viewpoint that either: everyone else in the planet is wrong, or two that everyone but them does not really understand the situation. Many thanks for your concise, pertinent insight.

Thanks for the post Jon...
I always enjoy our Fall and "winter" garden.
Our climate allows prolific Brassica crop farming during the Winter months and we do Love our Broccoli.
I posted a mention of Fall gardens on our Blog

Neville,
That's a great idea! Kind of like the Chicken Tractor except you have to do the tractoring! Guess we could call it the "Human Tractor" model. :-)
Compost done right is the ultimate soil food - has nutrients, microbes, moisture and attracts worms while having "burned out" all the bad stuff. Planning to pack it into the beds before next spring!

Great post Jon.

I make my compost directly on the soil, with some old roofing iron forming edges around it, then move it on when full, leaving the compost to form. This method does need some turning of the compost, but that's good exercise too.

But then I've got space in my backyard. I find compost improves my soil and the veggies really seem to appreciate it.
