Losing to Gain
This question came from a friend yesterday:
Why do you think we are put in situations where we are stripped of our own selves? Is it out of God’s goodness so we do not rely on our own resources but switch over to His? I feel like I have been stripped over and over again of my sense of “self”.
Here was my response:
[Friend],
Now we are getting into the good stuff.
Forget ALL the theological “crap” you have ever learned/believed/studied. It is not “bad”, but it detracts from the “naked truth” about Father.
Go back to the beginning. Father who is the I AM, the ONE, the ONLY – get that? the ONLY; there is really not US or ME! – made man in his imagination, his image, a hologram, an illusion but in which He could experience life in an infinite number of ways as extensions of Himself. Hence you and me. But this is really Father’s life we are experiencing so there is really not ‘ours’. I know, that is a hard one to get our head around.
He put us on the planet naked and unashamed so that a) we would all be one without symbols and concepts that separate and b) we would FEEL and EXPERIENCE maximally the physical expression of his thought. In other words, He wanted to get the biggest bang for his buck, maximize his investment.
He also gave “us” FREE CHOICE to either experience all that we could for him or go off and be independent and play with the “bad” boys down the street (which are also part of His expression, part of the story that all turns out OK in the end).
Over all this is the idea that LOVE will be the cohesiveness, the agent, the medium, the force that woos and draws and brings us into His Oneness again.
We, however, in our choice, like scaliwags given access to the candy store, like to go play in ways that are less than attentive to Father. So He is constantly putting “tests” in front of us, constantly reminding us there is an easier way to get through the current experience, ways of living that are more intimately associated with Him.
Yeshua exemplified this for us and cut right through ALL the religious, social, cultural, and gender structure that kept people separated from themselves and each other and Father. He called it living life more abundantly. We could call it stripped of our own selves.
All of this is just to say, yes, Father will “strip us of ourselves” so that we will intimately, nakedly, unashamedly return to that place where He can speak and we can listen and do and experience Him in the deepest places of our heart, and His! It is so that His imaginations, His images, His creations will bring Him Great Pleasure, just as Yeshua did.
“This is my Beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Yeshua is the first of many to whom it will be said, “Well done!”
I personally want to be in that group, want to let Father experience through my image of him ALL that He wants to experience through me (it will be but a fragment of the Total!). I find it most often and best occurs when I can “let go” of myself, be stripped of myself, and be that naked and unashamed one, free to really just listen and follow the wind, the spirit, that comes from no one knows where but whose effect can be seen by the trail it leaves. That really is Life and Breath.
Hope this makes sense.
Love you,
Jon
Weird, I know. Inverted, as Gerald O’Donnell calls this planet. Confusing. Bottom line – Listen to Father, Lose “me” to gain the eternal.
Blessings,
Dr Jon
